 TRACK 4 , PROJECT 

      Hello everyone! My name is Nazrin Guliyeva and i am from Azerbaijan. I am a preparatory class student in Istanbul Medipol University and my department is medicine. According to our track 4 project we supposed to write a paragraph about our topic and subtopic which we chose. My topic is plastics reconstructive and aesthetics and subtopic is rhinoplasty. The reason why i chose this topic and subtopic is that i have always been curious about how plastic surgeries done especially rhinoplasty. 

Essay 1

                                                            PHINOPLASTY 

     Rhinoplasty is a surgical intervention usually done to normalize the function or improve appearance of the nose. It is usually known by the name nose job or nose shaping, because of it is purpose of fulfilling the aesthetic goal and correcting any traumatic injuries. Now most people prefer nasal surgery for many reasons. However, the most common reasons for nose shaping are three of them.

The first reasons why people choose rhinoplasty is to repair their nose after an injury. Doctors recommend doing surgery immediately after the incident or within 10-14 days, until the damaged tissues have time to grow together incorrectly. Reposition of the bones is carried out either in the first hours after the fracture, or four days after the swelling subsides. Surgery is performed under local anesthesia. With the help of special instruments that are inserted into the nose through the sinuses, the surgeon restores the anatomically correct shape of the nose.

 

Another reason to correct breathing problems. For these types of problems doctors prefer

 septoplasty. Unlike rhinoplasty, the purpose of the operation is not to restore the correct shape of the nose, however, to improve nasal breathing. Most operations take place within 60 minutes, the duration of the operation depends on the individual structure and condition of the nasal septum.

The final reason to correct the shape of the nose and look aesthetically pleasing. Thanks to rhinoplasty, doctors can lengthen or shorten your nose, reduce the size of your nostrils, change the tip of your nose and the position of your nose to the lips, and forehead. In general, there are two methods of rhinoplasty – open and closed surgery. Open surgery is performed through a small incision between the nostrils at the bottom of the nose. Access through this part allows a wider field of view for the surgeon. Closed rhinoplasty is performed through internal incisions. It does not leave behind visible scars and does not injure the skin area between the nostrils.

         To sum up, the major causes why people prefer rhinoplasty are repair nasal fractures, correct breathing problems, and correct the shape of the nose. Nowadays, rhinoplasty is one of the most popular operations in the world. With this surgery everyone can have a perfect nose shape.

 EFFECTS OF RHINOPLASTY. 

        

        Rhinoplasty is a wonderful operation that can greatly beautify the patient. However, in rhinoplasty as in many other plastic surgeries, it is not always possible to accurately predict the result, because each patient is individual, the healing and rehabilitation processes proceed differently for everyone. Complications do not happen rarely, and most of them do not arise due to a doctor’s mistake. There are three the most common complications after rhinoplasty.                                                                                                        One of the most common complications are the aesthetic complications. Not all aesthetic operations of nasal surgery lead to the desired transformation of appearance, in a certain percentage of the case the patient remains dissatisfied with the changes achieved. The aesthetic complications of rhinoplasty are quite diverse. After the operation of rhinoplasty, a hump may form. The nose may become ‘crooked’ that is asymmetrical in the back, tip, or wings. Some patients develop aesthetic defects in the form of growths or spikes.       

Another risk of rhinoplastyis anesthesia. Rhinoplasty is performed under anesthesia. Inhalation endotracheal anesthesia is used, the patient’s breathing is completely controlled by the anesthetic-respiratory apparatus. Therefore, at this stage there are so-called anesthetic risks. To minimize possible risks, a complete medical examination is carried out before rhinoplasty, which provides up-to-date information about patient’s health status.      

The last of possible risks could be medical complications. In addition to aesthetic problems, medical complications can develop after nasal surgery. The most common complication is impaired nasal breathing. It can occur both after aesthetic correction (modeling the shape of the nose) and after functional nasal surgery (straightening of the septum). The patient can correctly follow the doctor’s recommendations for 80 percent of the time, however the remaining 20 percent is enough for the development of complication in the form of perforation or pathological mobility of the septum. The situation can be corrected only with help of secondary rhinoplasty.        

To sum up, rhinoplasty is a surgery usually done to improve appearance of the nose. However, there are three the most common complications that could be after rhinoplasty such as aesthetic complications, anesthetic risks, and medical complications. Nasal surgery is a complex operation with serious interference with the natural structure of tissues.
